Overview
Xgene Corporation is a
biological research company that provides
innovative solutions to problems facing
pharmaceutical, consumer product, chemical,
and cosmetic companies. We market innovative
solutions that are developed by Xgene
scientists, and are able to provide
biological systems and assays by licensing
arrangements, or by our in house services.
Our AccuOrgan™
platform is based on our patented technology
for the creation of 3-D human organ
constructs customized to body location and
performance specifications. Our unique
methodology harnesses cell migration and
cell cross-talk mechanisms to accurately
recreate epithelial/mesenchymal living cell
layers from a variety of cell sources
representing different organs systems at
several locations within the body. Currently
we focus on multiple cell layers of
different tissue types created on transwell
filter membranes for assay purposes, and as
living biological material for grafting
studies. We apply our methodology to any
organ system of customer interest, and have
already developed the following in vitro
systems in multi-well plate formats:
-AccuSkin™,
a full-thickness human 3-D skin equivalent
-AccuGraft™,
an upside down version of Accuskin, an ideal
platform for skin grafting studies
-AccuCornea™,
a 3-D human corneal equivalent made with
epithelial and stromal cells

We note that assays
conducted on biological material, both on
cultured cells and animals, comprise most of
the key steps in the development of
pharmaceuticals, and that primitive cell
monolayer assays and animal tests just have
not provided the necessary assay starting
materials needed to develop drugs most
effectively, identify active ingredients,
and evaluate toxicity. Customers using
AccuOrgan™ systems are
harnessing a cutting-edge tool of surprising
effectiveness in target identification,
validation, and toxicity, while also
increasing their ability to identify
off-target effects. AccuOrgans™
are the animal-free testing platform of
choice.
Our gene regulation technology is likewise a powerful
new patented tool, and provides the perfect
complement to human genome and DNA
microarray analysis for deciphering gene
expression responses to lead compounds.
Customers that need to know ‘everything’
about a particular gene should not overlook
Xgene’s evaluation of transcription factor
activators. This technology is
unconventional and offers unique information
not available from other laboratories.
